Things that matter

Alright, so my fire died off quickly, I didn't even get any followers the first time around, but I have had some recent events that have turned me back to the blog, like my subtitle says, blogging is a way for me to empty what's on my mind, it's kinda like therapy I guess you could say.

Oh, and I can't forget, I will admit that it was the return of my brother JO OLSEN to the blogging sphere that got me thinkin' about it. I just needed to make that disclaimer.

So with this conference weekend that just went by, I have had a lot on my mind recently, about priorities and life... *sigh* it's quite a lot to take in.  Then in institute today we talked about priorities, and Bro. Irwin brought up the subject, and said the words "things that matter" which got me thinking about a song by Rascal Flatts by the same title. Here is a link to youtube: Rascal Flatts - Things that matter  But for those of you who are too lazy to click there, or don't want to take the four and a half minutes to listen to the entire song, here are the lyrics...

Sometimes he lets that boss get in his head
He can't get past that mountain of deadlines on his desk
5oclock he's that last one out of the gate
And he gets cut off, flipped off, ticked off, out on the interstate
And he wonders why this world won't leave him alone
Till he hears that little voice holler "daddy's home"
Things that matter
Things that don't

She's held on to that grudge all her life
And thirty years of anger
Since her dad walked out that night
She thinks of all the moments that he's missed
All the birthdays, ballets, first dates
That seems too much to forget
She gets that call that said he don't have long
She walks in
He starts crying
The past is gone
Things that matter
Things that don't

Time ain't on my side
Don't want to leave this world
With why didn't I?
Why didn't I?
Yeah why didn't I?

Sometimes I take on this world by myself
Thinking I got all the answers
Don't need anybody's help
Well God was right there waiting for me all along
To fall down on my knees surrender all
Things that matter
Things that don't
Things that matter
Things that don't

Intense right? I've been listening to it on repeat all night, and it's got me thinking,  WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT MATTER? This thought process takes me back to a simpler time...my mission, when the things that mattered were my focal point.  I wasn't caught up in all the hustle and bustle of this life.  Even though my mission wasn't so much focused on MY family, it was about a greater family, God's family.  As the song illustrates, our relationships with our family are what really count, that and our fellow men...and ourselves. Hmmmm, sound familiar? Listen to conference last week? BAM! President Uchtdorf talked about that. Quote:
"Diligently doing the things that matter most, will lead us to the Savior of the World"
In other words, taking care of our relationships will lead us to the Savior of the World! How sweet is that?  Who'd a thunk that taking care of the people we already love would be a sure fire way to get to know Christ?  I feel so blessed to have revelation from the Lord that points me in the right direction. Now it is my job to actually do something about it...or it is in vain.

Now I'm not going to go into much more detail, some of the things I have thought about/decided are personal, but the message that is burning in my soul right now is to be shared with everyone. So I put the question to you, What matters the most to you?  Now, take what you've thought, and ponder over if you live your life in a manner that shows that what you claim matters most, really IS what matters most.  You might be surprised by the answer.
If people can make adjustments, however so slight, to the way they treat what really matters most, my job is done here.

Thanks for looking at my brains spilled onto paper. I hope it was worth a few minutes of your time.
